Why to visit Meghalaya State Museum

The museum is organised into two galleries, each dedicated to a distinct Meghalaya ethnic tribe. In the first gallery, visitors may view wooden crafts, tribal costumes, beautiful decorations, traditional weaponry, ceramics, and musical instruments from the Jaintia and Khasi tribes. Muga fabric, hand-woven baskets, and Wein ceramics are among the gallery's highlights. The second exhibit, which belongs to the Garos, contains a comparable collection of items that provide a thorough look into this unique mountain tribe's heritage. The highlights of this gallery include bamboo hut models, tribal clothing, indigenous weaponry like Selu and Sephi, colourful turbans, and decorations like Ringitok and Seng-Ki.

Special Tip

You must purchase some items displayed in the museum if having a good idea of bargaining.
