The Laitumkhrah Church, also known as the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians, is one of Shillong's most magnificent cathedrals, situated on a steep plateau that requires a series of steps to approach. It is named after Mary, Jesus Christ's mother. With its soaring arches and large stained-glass windows, the building has two levels: a chapel and a massive cathedral. The church is built to withstand earthquakes, which is one of its defining features.
