Why to visit Visapur Fort

The Visapur Fort, near Visapur hamlet and Lonavala, is a popular hill fort. It's also known as Visapoor Fort and is a favourite weekend destination for Pune and Mumbai residents. The magnificent fort is a famous trekking location. The ascent to Visapur Fort is rocky but enjoyable. It takes about 2.5 to 3 hours each way and concludes at a height of 3556 feet, starting in Bhaje village.

The fort is 1084 metres above sea level and offers panoramic views of hills clothed in a dense covering of green. The vegetation, gushing waterfalls, and gorgeous fog make the monsoons the finest time to explore Visapur Fort. This enormous fort was constructed as a replica of the well-known Lohagad fort.

The trip to the summit of Visapur fort can be done in two ways.

  • 1st path: The route from the base hamlet of Lohagadwadi, which is also the starting point for Lohagad Fort, is more well-defined and speedier. The second path is more convoluted, slower, and more difficult to discover at times, but it is more adventurous and interesting, especially during the monsoons.
  • 2nd path: To take the second route, drive your car to Patan village and then ask locals where the walk begins. The nicest feature about this course is that you walk through a variety of terrain in one trek: you walk over a meadow for a while, cross many waterfalls, travel through a dense forest, and then go right up a flowing waterfall for the last ascent. Except for a few spots, the route is well-defined; look for arrows carved into the stone at these spots. Keep in mind that the trail that leads up to the waterfall must be followed.

Special Tip

Carry some snacks (for example, dry fruits, masala peanuts, chocolate bars, etc.) to eat at the peak because you will be exhausted by the time you arrive (and you should plan to spend time there). This will prevent you from being hungry and wanting to descend right away.
