Why to visit Bhushi Dam

Bhushi Dam is a masonry dam near Lonavala, Maharashtra, on the Indrayani River. It is a popular tourist destination that is best seen during the monsoon season, when the water in the dam overflows and forms a cascade. Swimming is prohibited in the dam due to the inconsistency of the water flow, although one can always relax on the steps.

The spilling water over the steps of Bhushi Dam and subsequently across the rocky terrain makes this a popular destination for locals who flock in huge numbers on weekends during the monsoon season. It gets so busy that many people have trouble simply finding a good standing space.

The most convenient way of traveling to Bhushi Dam is by hiring a taxi or driving your own vehicle from Lonavala.

Special Tip

Walking up to the dam is a little tricky with water logging, mud and uneven stones. The steps are slippery so wear footwear with good gripping
