Why to visit Duke Nose
Duke's Nose got its name from the Duke of Wellington, whose nose was shaped like the cliff. The cliff's shape has earned it the name Naagphani, or Cobra's Hood. From the Sunset Point in Khandala, you may get a panoramic view of Duke's Nose. People travelling from Mumbai to Pune or vice versa frequently stop here for a breath of fresh air and a breathtaking view of the valley.
For those looking to take their trekking to the next level, night treks are a popular option. One might join one of the organisations that organise these night expeditions for a little charge. The Lonavala Railway Station is the starting point for these excursions. Trekkers must walk from there to the base of Duke's Nose. This trail stretches about 7 kilometres. The ascent to the top begins after this point. In the dark, the trail passes through a rocky area with tight crevices. The Duke's Nose takes roughly 3 hours to reach. After a few hours of recuperation, hikers can either wait until daybreak or start ascending down.
Camping overnight is a requirement after the exhilarating climb to the summit of the Duke's Nose. Campers can pitch their tents on the cliff and spend the night under the stars, cooled by the breeze, gazing out over the magnificent valley. Several merchants offer group camping activities such as bonfires, barbeques, dinners, and various games or entertainment activities around the campfire. Camping can cost anywhere from INR 1200 to INR 3500. All you have to do now is pack your belongings and head out on one of these overnight camping adventures.
