Why to visit Lohagad Fort

Lohagad Fort, erected in the 18th century, is a popular trekking and natural destination for visitors from Pune and Mumbai. This is where Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj kept his treasury.

The hike to the fort is straightforward and suitable for first-timers, making it a popular destination for hikers. Lohagad Fort, in addition to its exhilarating hike route, is a large edifice that was previously under the power of the mighty Maratha Empire and is linked to its twin Visapur Fort.

Until a few years ago, the fort's base was rather far from the last place connected by road; however, now that a decent road has been completed to the fort's base, many people visit Lohagad during monsoon weekends, making it quite congested. Whether you come for the lush green beauty, challenging trekking route, panoramic vistas, or famous history, this place will not disappoint.

Nestled in the bosom of gently rolling hills, there is more than one route to reach the Lohagad Fort via trekking.

The fastest and easiest route is driving up to the base village of Lohagadwadi, and then simply walk up the stone steps of the fort.
