Why to visit Naneghat Hills
Naneghat, also known as Nanaghat, is a mountain pass in the Western Ghats range that connects the Konkan coast with the ancient Deccan Plateau settlement of Junnar. Thane is 141.9% of the way to Naneghat Hills in Maharashtra.
The words 'nane' and 'ghat' signify coin and pass, respectively. The tollbooth, which stood here in ancient times to collect toll from traders crossing the ghat, gave this place its name. Naneghat Hills, at an elevation of 838.2 metres above sea level, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Thane.
Several caves and rock-cut water cisterns can be found in this mountain route. Stone inscriptions in the Brahmi language can be found in some of the caves, giving them historical significance. Naneghat pass was the main commercial route between Kalyan and Junnar during Satavahana's reign. Trekking is popular in the Naneghat Hills.
Many travellers come here specifically to do trekking. Morning, afternoon, and evening are all good times to visit, but the best time to visit is during the day when there are fewer people and one can enjoy the scenery in solitude.
