Why to visit Jahaz Mahal

This two-story architectural wonder, nestled between two man-made lakes, was given that name because it resembled a ship on the water. It was constructed by Sultan Ghiyas-ud-din-Khalji. 

The Mehrauli neighbourhood contains Delhi, one of the magnificent buildings with some incredible engineering and wonderful architecture.

History of the Jahaz Mahal:

In order to facilitate travel for the myriad of tourists from Afghanistan, Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Morocco, and Turkey who flocked to Delhi to see the numerous Muslim places of worship, the Jahaz Mahal summer camp was built. 

Things to know about Jahaz Mahal:

  • Jahaz Mahal, an elegant name that suggests "Ship Palace," was given since the monument was built next to the Hauz-i-Shamsi lake.
  • The palace's beautifully carved chhatris and dome-shaped pavilion with blue tile decorations are its standout features.
  • The annual Phool Walon Ki Sair or Sair-i-Gulfaroshan festival, held in October, is held at Jahaz Mahal. The Jahaz Mahal, where complex cultural programmes are organized, hosts the three-day festival.
  • According to legend, the palace was built to accommodate pilgrims travelling to Delhi.
