Why to visit Boating at Idukki Dam

The Idukki Arch Dam is an engineering marvel in Kerala, India's southernmost state. It is a double-curvature arch dam constructed on the Periyar River. The dam is built in a canyon between two hills called Kuravathi and Kuravan. It stands at a height of around 550 feet and provides a beautiful view of the otherwise rough region along which it was constructed.

It is one of Asia's tallest arch dams at this height. The dam can be seen from a long distance due to its immense size, and the sight of the construction in between the granite hills is beautiful. The reservoir provides as a fast refuge for locals, and the surrounding area is lush green. Tourists can go boating in the reservoir as part of a promotion of hydel tourism.

The dam entrance fee is INR 25, while the boating fee is INR 125.

Special Tip

There are no cameras or electrical gadgets allowed within the dam. There are also a limited number of parking spaces available.
