Why to visit Pretshilla Hill

Pretshila Hill, often known as the Hill of Ghosts, is located eight kilometres from Gaya. For Hindus, it is one of Gaya's most sacred spots, where they come to offer pind-daan, a rite conducted for the tranquilly of a deceased person's spirit. The shrine at the top of the hill is dedicated to Lord Yama's supplication, according to Hindu mythology, the God of Death. This temple has been there for a long time, although no one knows exactly when it was built. It is thought to have been built by Rani Ahilyabai Holkar, the Queen of Indore.

However, the temple has undergone numerous alterations since then. The Ramkund Tank, which is located near to the temple, is another attraction. Locals believe that Lord Rama once bathed in that tank, and that it has since become a holiness beacon. Hindus believe that taking a bath in the tank can wash away a person's sins.

Special Tip

When entering the temple, you must remove your shoes as a sign of respect. If you are hungry on your way down the hill, there is also Anish Fast Food Center to satisfy your hunger.
