Why to visit Gautama Buddha Statue

The enormous statue of the great Gautama Buddha is one of the most prominent religious landmarks in Bodh Gaya, Bihar. The majestic figure, carved from red granite and sandstone and depicting Lord Buddha in his meditation stance known as the mudra on top of a flowering lotus, stands around 25 metres tall. This statue is thought to be the country's tallest and also the first Buddha to be placed. The figure is commonly referred to as the "80-foot statue" by the locals.

The towering Buddha was built over the course of seven years by a Daijokyo, who enlisted the help of over 12,000 masons to create this magnificent sculpture of Lord Buddha. The fourteenth Dalai Lama dedicated the statue on November 18, 1989. It was built purely for the purpose of preaching Buddhism and spreading Gautama Buddha's teachings. People who truly follow the teachings of Buddha visit the place for sure second to the Mahabodhi temple.
