Why to visit Muchalinda Lake

The lovely Muchalinda Lake in Bodhgaya is located to the right of Mahabodhi Temple. The lake, often known as "Lotus Pond," is surrounded by thick flora and has a serene environment. The main attraction here is a lovely statue of Lord Buddha meditating on a snake coil shielded by its hood, which is located in the centre. The water in the pond is holy, and there are thousands of fish in it that you can feed with puffed rice.

This lake is actually the subject of a legend. A severe storm blew out while Lord Buddha was meditating near the lake during his sixth week of meditation, causing the waves to lash him. The Snake King (Muchalinda), seeing Buddha's distress, decided to shield him from the storm. The full storey is etched on a stone on the lake's edge. Because of the decorations and lighting along the lake's shores, the lake looks spectacular at night.

Special Tip

The entrance price is waived here, but there is a charge of INR 20 for cameras and INR 300 for videos.
