Why to visit Diu Fort
The Fort of Diu is a massive edifice that is high on the traveller's to-do list. A jetty built on the northwestern shore, which was originally utilised to commerce with Cambay, Broach, and Surat in Gujarat, is still unused and boasts a remarkable view of the sea. The lighthouse, which may be climbed, rises to the island's highest point and affords a great panoramic view area. The entire area is littered with cannonballs, and the parapet boasts a spectacular collection of guns.
The entrance to this mediaeval citadel is through one of three gates. On the major front wall of the main entry gate, there are five enormous openings with stone galleries. The main gateway, which is etched with Portuguese inscriptions, is reached through a fixed bridge. This massive structure housed noble houses, a storehouse, and barracks for troops, as well as a house of armaments and gunpowder, a dungeon, a church, and a chapel, all of which are now in ruins. At one end of the stronghold, there is also a big lighthouse.
The main town is about a ten-to-twelve-minute bike ride away. You can also hire an auto rickshaw or a cab, both of which are readily available throughout the city.
