Why to visit Trekking at Double Decker Root Bridge

The Double Decker Root Bridge is a live root bridge located at Nongriat hamlet near Cherrapunji in Meghalaya, 15 kilometres from Cherrapunjee. The live root bridges of Nongriat hamlet, crafted by native Khasi tribes, are one of the world's oldest man-made wonders, dating back centuries. The aerial roots of Rubber Trees are intertwined around a Betel Tree vehicle put across a creek to create this man-made bridge. The roots continue to develop and entwine the stem, elongating the bridge to the desired destination, which takes around 10-15 years to complete.

The walk takes about 5 to 6 hours to complete in total. The first part of the path takes you past small villages and down a very mild slope until you reach a bifurcation in the trail that leads to the world's longest Single Decker Root Bridge. Nongriat village, where the Double Decker Bridge is located, is only a 45-minute walk from here. Tourists can hire a guide at the Tyrna trek's starting point.

The hike takes you through a gorgeous green forest and requires you to cross two stunning long iron rope bridges along the way. A natural waterfalls pool of the Umshiang River is located beneath the bridge, where hikers can take a dip and enjoy the scenery. A one-hour hike up to Rainbow Falls is also possible, which is incredibly spectacular and highly recommended by both trekkers and locals. There's a good chance you'll see a real rainbow above the waterfalls.
