Why to visit Simcoe Wavedeck

The wooden wavedeck, located near the water's edge immediately west of Simcoe Street, has an informal public amphitheatre-style venue with magnificent curves that rise as high as 2.6 metres over the lake. The wavedeck is designed to give city inhabitants a taste of life at the lake, inspired by the Canadian cottage lifestyle and the shorelines of Ontario's great lakes. Waterfront Toronto prioritises providing access to Lake Ontario.

The Simcoe WaveDeck joins the Spadina WaveDeck, which opened last year, in providing more public space along one of the most extensively frequented sections of the Toronto shoreline. The third wavedeck at Rees Street is currently under construction and will open in August.

The water is illuminated and a glow is cast from beneath the deck thanks to LED fixtures fitted to the timber construction. LED lights have a 20-year life cycle and are extremely efficient.

The wavedeck is a completely unique Canadian construction found nowhere else on the planet. The wavedeck was designed with the shorelines of Ontario's great lakes in mind, as well as the Canadian cottage experience. The wavedeck's remarkable curves have never been seen before. The wavedeck is an urban dock that serves as an utilitarian gathering spot as well as a work of art. It is a structurally totally flexible room.
