Why to visit Canada's Wonderland
Canada's Wonderland is a theme park in Vaughan, Ontario, about 25 kilometres (16 miles) north of downtown Toronto. It was the first big theme park in Canada, and it is now the country's largest, having opened in 1981 by the Taft Broadcasting Company and the Great-West Life Assurance Company. Until its temporary closure in 2020, the park, which is currently owned by Cedar Fair, was North America's most visited seasonal amusement park for several years.
Canada's Wonderland is the world's second-largest roller coaster park, behind Six Flags Magic Mountain, with seventeen roller coasters (19 coasters). Splash Works, an 8-hectare (20-acre) water park, is part of the park's 134-hectare (330-acre) size.
It is a seasonal park that is open everyday from May to Labour Day, with weekend openings from late April to the end of October or early November. Various food festivals, as well as "Celebration Canada," a month-long Canada Day festival, are among the noteworthy activities that take place throughout the season. Each autumn, through the last weekend of October or early November at midnight, the park hosts Halloween Haunt, a Halloween-themed event. WinterFest, a holiday-themed event that began in 2019, was introduced to extend the park's operating season into late December.
