Why to visit Khambhalida Caves
The Khambhalida Caves are a set of three Buddhist caves located at the foot of a small hill on the banks of a spring that date back to the 4th or 5th century AD. The stupa is located in the central cave, known as 'Chaitya Grih.' On either side of the cave's entrance are two Bodhisattva statues. These finely carved sculptures were discovered to be from the late Kushana-Kshatapa period.
Buddhist monks are thought to have worshipped in these caverns in the past, and the spiritual vibrations can still be felt now. The major Khambhalida Caves are surrounded by 15 additional caves. Travelers can include them in their itinerary. In the area, there are also proposals for a major Buddhist temple complex.
The Khambhalida Caves, popularly known as the Rajkot Caves, are a group of three Buddhist caves in Gujarat. They are in the Rajkot district of Gujarat, close to the town of Gondal. They were revealed in 1958 by P.P. Pandya, a well-known archaeologist. The central cave, chaitya, is a worn-out stupa and is named after it.
