Why to visit Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary

Due to its support for a variety of habitat types and endemic species, Parambikulam is one of the world's biodiversity hubs. The Parambikulam Tiger Reserve is residence to some of the rarest and most endangered wildlife species. It also serves as a natural habitat for the majestic tigers. There are 28 tigers in the reserve, according to the most recent estimates. In addition to tigers, other animals found in this reserve include elephants, leopards, peacocks, spotted deer, sambar deer, bison, porcupines, lion-tailed macaques, and Nilgiri tahr. 250 different bird species mean that there are excellent prospects for bird viewing. Only in this reserve can one view the Parambikulam Chilappan, a rare species of frog.

For guests to appreciate the woodlands and see wildlife, the forest department has made the necessary safety arrangements. There are camps, a forest safari, and trekking available. A jungle safari enables you to explore the area and observe the wildlife up close and in its natural setting. For the jungle safari, a ride may hold up to 25 passengers. The Pugmark Trail, Elephant Song Trail, Bear Path Trail, and Kariyanshola Trail are just a few of the numerous trekking packages available in the Parambikulam Tiger Reserve.

One of the biggest teaks in Asia is thought to be the Kannimara Teak in Parambikulam. A tramway was built to transport teak from Parambikulam to Chalakudy during the British era. Even now, one can still see the tramway tracks here. Here is where the Parambikulam Dam, a component of the Parambikulam-Aliyar project, is located. At the Parambikulam reservoir, visitors can choose to travel on bamboo rafts. It's also worth exploring the neighbouring Peruvaripallam and Thunakkadavu Dams. Four indigenous tribes, such as the Muduvar, Kadar, Malasar, and Mala Malasar, who live in six colonies, call the sanctuary home.

Safari Cost: Rs. 200 for Jungle Safari, Rs. 500 for Bear Path Trail, Rs. 3600 for 5 People for Pug Mark Trail, Rs. 500 for Elephant Song Trail (approximately).
