Why to visit Palakkad Fort

This magnificent fort is nestled in the centre of Palakkad town, in a maze of deep forests and crisscrossing flowing rivers, in the foothills of the Sahyadris range. The massive fort covers an area of 60,702 square metres and is renowned for its architecture, which exemplifies the skill of French artisans. Pallakad's beautiful fortress is an important part of history, and its design is equally impressive.

The fort is square in design and is reinforced by square-shaped walls and bastions. Previously, the fort's entry was via a drawbridge, which has since been rebuilt by a permanent one. Within the fort's grounds is a major land that functioned as a stable for Tipu Sultan's army's horses and elephants in olden history. It is named as the Kota Maidanam and is located between the fort and the Palakkad Town Hall.

The Hanuman temple, Martyr's column, Anjaneya Swami Temple (a little shrine), Vatika Shilavatika (a park), and a sub-jail are all located within the Palakkad fort. This fort is very stunning, combining the beauty of beautiful green gardens with amazing historical architecture. The fort is also referred as Tipu's Fort, after Tipu Sultan's name (son of Hyder Ali). The magnificent fort depicts historical tales of valour and bravery.
