Why to visit Grand Friday Mosque

The Grand Friday Mosque in Male is one landmark that draws everyone's attention with its soaring golden dome. The mosque is part of the Islamic Centre in Male's city centre, and it is immediately near to Male's main pier, making it easy to recognise even from the sea. The mosque is the largest in the Maldives, and it was constructed with the cooperation of many different areas, each bringing their unique specialisation. The Gulf States, Pakistan, Brunei, and Malaysia were among them.

Many people consider the Grand Friday Mosque to be the golden icon of the island because of its religious and cultural significance to the city and country. Locals likewise honour and appreciate this site of worship, believing it to be a symbol of not just the island, but also the Islamic religion. The walls also seem to be covered in Arabic Calligraphy whereas the floor is spread wide with carpets from around the world

Special Tip

Do note that the mosque is closed to all Non- Muslims 15 minutes before the prayers commence.
