Why to visit Vivekananda Rock Memorial
Two rocks are sticking out of the ocean to the south-east of the temple in Kanyakumari. Swami Vivekananda spent a significant amount of time in prolonged and intense meditation on one of these rocks. The unassuming monk became an effective warrior with the help of the virgin goddess. Now known as the "Vivekananda Rock," the rock.
The "Vivekananda Rock Memorial" was constructed in 1970 on top of this rock, fusing several Indian architectural traditions. The memorial Mandapam now includes a statue of Swami Vivekananda. On this rock, there are also Sri Pada Parai, the virgin goddess's footsteps. This statue is a beautiful and tranquil location, with the Indian Ocean just behind it.
Legends and historical accounts claim that Goddess Kumari practised asceticism on this rock. Alongside the memorial, there is a "Dhyana Mandapam" that serves as a space for guests to contemplate. The remarkable architectural design used here includes many temple designs from all around India. These rocks are encircled by the Laccadive Sea.
History of the Memorial—
To mark the 100th anniversary of Swamiji's birth, it was deemed appropriate in January 1962 to build a memorial in his honour. The initiative was taken by Sri Veluyudhan, the Haindeva Seva Sangh president, and a committee was established.
The memorial was approved by all attendees of a meeting organised by the Sri Ram Krishna Mission. The wonderful memorial statue was finally sanctioned after overcoming a few initial hiccups, and the rest is history.
