Why to visit Bhagvathy Amman Temple
The 3000 year old Bhagavathy Amman Temple is devoted to the goddess Kanyakumari Amman. The temple is notable because it houses the sacred Vedas as well as the age-old texts from the epics Ramayana and Mahabharata. It is regarded as one of the lucky locations in Kanyakumari.
The goddess idol within the temple is impressive. She has a rosary in her hand and gold jewellery that shines at the light sparks from her nostrils. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Parasuraman is credited with bestowing the temple with a hallowed or holy status.
The shrine is also thought to be one of the 51 Shakti Peetham, where pieces of the Goddess Sati fell as a heartbroken Lord Shiva lifted her body. There is a room inside the temple called Navarathri Mandapam where worshippers perform musical offerings to the Goddess.
The Bhagvathy Amman Temple's Legends...
The diamond nose ring of the Goddess Kanya Kumari is a striking aspect of the enticing idol. The eye-catching glitter of the nose ring is the subject of numerous well-known tales. The nose ring diamond is said to have been taken from the King Cobra.
According to a common myth, the nose ring's shine is so strong that a sailor once mistaken it for a lighthouse and strike the ship on the rocks as a result. The temple's eastern door is shut tight and only opened five times a year, on special occasions, because of this.
