Why to visit Peer Kho Cave
The shrine contains a black Swayambhu (naturally formed) Shiva Lingam and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This shrine contains two naturally occurring caverns, each of which is around 20 to 30 feet deep.
Visitors must ascend a set of marble steps from the ground level in order to access the Shiva Lingam. The temple sees a massive stream of visitors throughout the year, which spikes around Shivaratri and other Hindu holidays.
This Cave Temple is surrounded by acacia woods and igneous rocks. There is also a Peer Kho Mohalla or locality opposite it that has a commemoration to an ancient Peer named Peer Shiv Nath.
Legends of Peer Kho Cave:
According to legend, Jamvant, the bear god from the renowned epic Ramayana, meditated here. Because of this, it is sometimes referred to as the Jamvant Cave.
It is generally acknowledged that a Shiva Lingam organically grew in the cave, and the people of Jammu began to worship it fervently and with great reverence.
Another intriguing aspect is that some people even think the cave leads not just to neighbouring caves but also to locations outside the nation.
