Why to visit Bhimgarh Fort
Bhimgarh Fort, also known as Reasi Fort, is a well-known and stunning fort that is situated in Reasi, Udhampur District, on the northeastern side of Jammu. Originally constructed of mud and clay, the fort was eventually renovated and rebuilt with stones.
History of the Bhimgarh Fort:
The Fort was built by Maharaja Rishipal Rana, who also established the town of Reasi. Maharaja Gulab Singh repaired the fort once more in 1817 and once more in 1841. The royal family is reported to have lived in the fort and specifically used it as a sanctuary throughout the conflict.
Architecture of the Bhimgarh Fort:
- Baluka stones crafted in the style of Rajasthani architecture were used to construct the fort's main entrance gate.
- Two statues made of red stone, one depicting the goddess Mahakali and the other Lord Hanuman, may be found inside the fort complex.
- The complex also includes a temple, a pond, and various-sized chambers with vibrant wall paintings.
Entry Timing: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day of the week.
Entry fee: There is no entry cost to see the fort.
Visiting time: around one hour.
Best time: April to June is the best time to visit.
