Why to visit Kirti Stambh (Town Of Fame)

The 12th-century Kirti Stambh is located inside Rajasthan's Chittorgarh Fort. During the reign of Rawal Kumar Singh, a Jain trader named Jeeja Bhagerwala built the 22-meter-tall tower to promote Jainism. Since the tower houses deities from the Jain pantheon, Kirti Stambh is regarded by many adherents of Jainism as a significant place of pilgrimage.

The Tower of Fame is another name for Kirti Stambh. It honours Rishabha, the first Tirthankara. This seven-story tower, which is well-known for the Digambar sect's artistic carvings, features magnificent statues of Sri Adinatha. They are intricately carved on the Stambh's four sides, along with representations of other Jain saints. The tower best exemplifies the Solanki Style of architecture. When you visit the Stambh, you get the opportunity to read historical documents and take in a beautiful vista.

The Kirti Stambha's history

The most notable history is imprinted within the walls of Chittor Fort. After Alauddin Khilji besieged the magnificent fort, Rani Padmini performed the Jauhar. It contains Kirti Stambh, which Jija of the Bhagerwala people erected. Sri Adinath, the first Jain Thirthankar, had it constructed in his honour. The tower has three inscriptions that provide this information. The Stambh's nude Thirthankar statues indicate that the Digambara sect owned it. Furthermore, Dharmakirti, Shubhakirti's disciple, is mentioned in one of the inscriptions. Balatkara Gana Pattavali asserts that Dharmakirti was the patta's leader from 1224 and 1257 AD, nevertheless. These data suggest that the building was constructed in the thirteenth century.

Architectural style of Kirti Stambha

The Tower of Fame is built in the Solanki architectural style and features several balconies and finely carved window arches. The tower is 30 feet wide at the base and 22 metres (72 feet) tall, narrowing to 15 feet at the top. The observation hall, which is located at the top of the seven-story tower, provides guests with a stunning view of the settlement below. It is accessible through a short flight of stairs that also provides access to a breathtaking panorama of the surrounding area.
