Why to visit Nettukuppam

Nettukuppam is Chennai's northernmost point, with a beach that has yet to be tainted by invading tourists. Ennore's salty creek meets the sea here, making a sort of estuary. The location is great for a relaxing vacation because it is yet off the beaten tourist path. There are no yelling hawkers here, nor are there any visitors swarming the beach. During the holiday seasons or festivals, it attracts a larger crowd, although most of the time only a few groups of people are present. There is a vantage point from which you can observe the skyline of Chennai and contemplate the city's wide historical and geographical diversity. Locals refer to this structure as the "broken bridge," and claim that it was built years ago to support a dredger near the creek's mouth.

Special Tip

Even though the location may be appealing, it is best not to visit during the sunrise. During the early hours of the morning, the tide is extremely high. Only later in the day and in the afternoon is it safe.
