Why to visit Fort St. George
The main goal of constructing the gigantic fort compound, known as the 'White Town,' was to establish a British foothold in the Coromandel Coast and the rest of south India. It was easier to develop the various minor towns and villages in Tamil Nadu with Fort St. George as a British headquarters. During this period, the presently thriving city of Chennai sprang up around the fort, which was given the British name Madras. In many ways, the majestic fort is the first in the entire era of British control in India. The fort is the country's first British military settlement. The Archaeological Survey of India and the Tamil Nadu Government have taken steps to protect the great fort. The church and a museum, on the other hand, are open to the general public, allowing them to learn about the fort's importance in Indian history.
