For a genuine prison experience, go to this vegetarian restaurant on Camac Street. It's a five-star fine-dining prison. Take a seat inside one of their jail cells and eat your food while being surrounded by jailors and inmates under gloomy lighting with handcuffs dangling from the ceiling. Waiters would all dress up as inmates, and bosses would dress up as cops. The atmosphere makes you feel like you're eating in a jail cell. Food, on the other hand, would not. In Chennai, this is an excellent vegetarian restaurant to visit.
