Dwarahat is a small town in Almora's Kumaon Mountains, located at a height of 1510 metres. It's famous for its archaeological and historical significance. The area is known as "The Village of Temples" because of its many gorgeous and numinous temples.

  • The Katyuri Kings built 55 ancient temples of remarkable architectural brilliance throughout the town. These are classified into eight groups.
  • The temples are mostly made using accessible Pre-Cambrian granite masonry blocks.
  • The two main attractions of Dwarahat are the famed Shakthi Temple at Dunagiri and the Naithna Devi Temple. 
  • The Syalde Bikhoti Fair is a popular attraction in Dwarahat. It is held each year in the month of April.

Except for the monsoon season (August-September), Dwarahat can be visited all year. The rest of the year has beautiful weather and plenty of options for sightseeing. The town is attractive all year, but especially in the winter when it gets snow.

The nearest train station is 150 km away from Dwarahat, at Kathgodam Railway Station. Pant Nagar airport is the closest. To get to Dwarahat, take a cab trip via some gorgeous hills and lakes. Dwarahat is located at the crossroads of the Kausani-Ranikhet and Almora-Badrinath routes, making it well connected to the rest of the state via motorable roads.
