History of the ancient Jalagandeeswarar Temple :
Folklore claims that Jalakandeswarar Temple was originally a famous anthill encircled by water gathered from rain. In response, worshipers erected a Shiva Lingam (a representation of the Hindu deity Lord Shiva) in this location. But soon after, Chinna Bommi Nayaka, the chieftain in charge of the fort at the time, dreamed that Lord Shiva had instructed him to build a temple there. As a result, Chinna Bommi Nayaka proceeded to construct a temple in 1550 AD in accordance with the divine directives he had received.
