The 200-year-old Ramlila flourished under the patronage of Benaras' Royal House. Around 10,000 individuals attend the events, which are organised on a huge scale. The performance lasts ten days in most cities, while in Ramnagar it lasts more than a month. It all comes to a head with Dussehra, a holiday commemorating the triumph of Good over Evil.
