Why to visit Mangaladevi Temple
Durga worshipers go to the huge temple, which also attracts tourists who come to see the city's old architecture. After offering their prayers, worshippers can sit and meditate or chant in the huge temple complex, feeling renewed and at peace. Mangalore, the city's name, is taken from the temple. The city was also formed around the temple, which serves as its geographic centre.
Lord Parshuram is said to have constructed the exquisite temple. Within the Hindu community in the city, Goddess Mangaladevi is held in great regard. Mangalore is, in fact, taken from the name of the deity.A princess from Malabar is supposed to have given up her opulent lifestyle to become a disciple of Matsyendranath.
Mangaladevi was her new name after she converted to the Nath religion. She became ill and remained near Bolar when the teacher and disciple travelled to Mangalore. Following her death, the people of Bolar built this temple in her honour, which they named Mangaladevi Temple.
