Why to visit Kalpeni Island
Kalpeni features three uninhabited satellite islands that are all surrounded by a magnificent lagoon. The water sparkles and flashes like a million aquamarines when the sun shines on it. Pitti and Thilakkm, two of the islands, are directly visible from Koomel, the gently curving harbour where the tourist amenities are located.
You can swim, snorkel, reef walk, or use water sports equipment such as kayaks and sailboats here. Tourist amenities have been improved, and depending on the package, guests can now stay on the island in privately maintained huts. The coral life in this lagoon is quite abundant.
A massive storm bank of coral debris runs along Kalpeni's eastern and southeastern shorelines, which is a unique feature. Huge coral rocks were thrown up along these coastlines by a strong storm in 1847, according to legend.
