Why to visit Kailasanathar Temple

Beautiful artwork and wonderful sculptures adorn the Kanchi Kailasanathar temple. The Temple is the oldest of all the temples in Tamil Nadu, having been built between 685 and 705 A.D. The Pallava ruler Rajasimha began the construction of this magnificent monument, which was completed by his son Mahendra Varma Pallava.

The temple's architecture is carved out of sandstone and is a superb example of the Dravidian style of construction. This temple's architectural splendour is strikingly different from that of all other temples in Tamil Nadu. The sixteen-sided Shiva lingam carved of black granite at the main temple is a stunning feature.

The temple is extremely important and valuable to Hindu worshippers, and it attracts a huge number of tourists all year, but the number of visitors spikes dramatically during Mahashivratri.
