Why to visit Tahtakale

After visiting the Egyptian Spice Market, take a stroll down Tahtakale Caddesi, the neighborhood's major thoroughfare, to view the neighborhood's day-to-day shopping scene. Traditional basketry, fabrics, and handcrafted wooden kitchenware and tableware, as well as affordable household products, are sold in the tiny passageways west of the Egyptian Spice Market.

Locals may come for the inexpensive pillow coverings, brushes, and pots and pans, but the handcrafted wooden spoons, pestle and mortars, rolling pins, and chopping boards, as well as some of the baskets, make fantastic keepsakes if you can find out how to bring them home without squashing them.

Special Tip

Before you buy something, make sure you ask around. Often, the same item can be obtained for half the price at multiple stores.
