Why to visit Rumeli Hisari

This structure, which dates from the 1490s, has served as a fortification, a prison, a customs post, and a monastary. Its vantage point gives you a panoramic view of the city. Inside, there is an open-air theatre where dance, music, and theatre events are held to educate visitors about traditional Turkish culture. Many of these acts are performed in big auditoriums during the summer. Within the fort, there is also a tiny mosque that is frequented by Islamic believers.

The quickest method to go to the Rumeli Castle, which is located on the Bosphorus, is to take a bus that passes via Rumeli Hisar bus station and get out at Rumeli Hisar bus stop. The bus station is very adjacent to the castle.

Special Tip

The entrance fee of this place is 8 TL approx. This place is closed on Mondays. Also, food is not permitted in the bastion, so don't bring a picnic or a snack (only water).
