Why to visit Kadıköy Market

Kadköy's market is a dynamic, pulsating commercial hub that works Monday through Friday and is one of Istanbul's top destinations for local food. With a profusion of stalls selling fresh seafood, herbs, veggies, and fruit, as well as shops specialising in things you can pack to take home, it's just as much pleasure to browse as it is to shop.

Local pickles, jams, honeys, and other condiments, as well as dried fruits and traditional Turkish sweets, can be found here. This is also an excellent place to get soaps and skincare items made from olive oil, herbal oils, and ointments, as well as traditional hammam (Turkish bath) scrubbing brushes and exfoliating sponges for non-foodie shopping.

The market is on Istanbul's Asian side just behind Kadıköy ferry terminal. The most scenic way to get here is by ferry, though you can also catch the metro.

Special Tip

Because of the fishmongers, the streets are frequently slick with water, wear shoes that have good traction. This place is closed on Sundays!
