Why to visit The Old Tavern of Psarras
Plaka's oldest restaurant, the Old Tavern of Psarras (literally means "old fisherman's Taverna"), has been in operation since 1898. It delivers wonderful Greek food at a reasonable price for the neighbourhood, but it also has the added virtue of being extremely attractive. You can sit in one of the historic buildings that has been converted into a restaurant, or in the charming courtyard.
This quaint eatery, also known as The Old Tavern of Psaras, was opened in 1898 and was later frequented by Laurence Olivier, Vivian Lee, and Graham Greene. Fresh seafood, meat (particularly superb lamb), and vegetarian options abound on the typical Greek menu. On Friday and Saturday nights, there is live music and a romantic, relaxed ambiance. Indoor and outdoor seating both are available here. For lunch and dinner, the restaurant is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
This is the place to go if you want to eat traditional Greek food in an idillic environment. The menu includes excellent fish with copious amounts of Greek olive oil mixed with lemon juice, a superb aubergine appetizer with an amazing Greek salad, fine wine, Greek donughts soaked in honey, drizzled with walnuts, and a serving of ice cream. The foods they serve will satisfy you, and it will be a wonderful day for you!
