Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, one of the very few of its kind, is a repository of centuries-old Tibetan-Buddhist culture and history. NIT's primary attractions are the museum and the library, which display meticulously maintained religious and cultural artefacts including as statues, paintings, coins, thangkas (embroidery), and Tibet artworks. NIT is a stunning example of Tibetan architecture, with a massive exterior, massive golden towers, and elaborately drawn frescos. NIT is a must-see among the many things to visit in Gangtok for both history fans and travel enthusiasts planning a trip to Gangtok.
