Why to visit Boating at Sukhna Lake
Sukhna Lake is a man-made lake that stretches for 3 square kilometres and is the only one of its kind in the city. It was created in 1958 by damming the seasonal Sukhna Choe (Stream) that flows down the Shivalik Hills. The lake attracts a steady stream of morning joggers and walkers who appreciate the fresh air as well as the gorgeous blue water. In fact, Le Corbusier, the creator of Chandigarh, India's first planned city, predicted that this lake would be the centre of people' wellness pursuits. The promenade in front of the lake is a popular spot for walkers and joggers to get in some exercise. It also has one of the country's longest rowing channels, which hosts the Asian Rowing Championships.
