Why to visit Khas Mahal
The emperor built Khas Mahal for his daughters Roshnara and Jahanara, as the name implies. The ornate ceilings and alcoves in the walls are a visual delight. It's no surprise that this private palace took 9 years to complete. The Khas Mahal is flanked on one side by the Yamuna River and on the other by Anguri Bagh. The pavilions of the Khas Mahal were built with red sandstone and white shell plaster. They had beautiful golden work and fresco paintings. The Khas Mahal has heavily adorned ceilings and alcoves in the surrounding walls. They used to house portraits of Mughal rulers. Chandeliers were once hung from the iron rings visible on the ceilings. Take a walk around the palace and take in the stunning architecture and breathtaking views.
