Why to visit Vishram Ghat

Vishram Ghat is a respected and sacred bathing ghat on the banks of the Yamuna River, about 4.5 kilometres from Mathura Junction. It is Mathura's primary ghat and serves as a hub for 25 other ghats. Pilgrims come from all over the country to bathe in the holy waters of Vishram Ghat and participate in the customary parikrama that begins and concludes here.

Vishram, which means rest, was named after Lord Krishna rested here after defeating Kansa, the evil demon king. This is why a journey to Mathura isn't complete without a stop at Vishram Ghat and the temples that dot the landscape. Vishram Ghat is surrounded by 12 ghats to the north and 12 ghats to the south.
