Why to visit Kargil War Memorial

The Kargil War Memorial, which is a must-see site, is made out of a pink sandstone wall with a brass plate bearing the identities of the soldiers who died during Operation Vijay.

Tourists to the memorial can view some of the significant events that occurred throughout the war. A documentary film that thoroughly covers the entire battle and the circumstances leading up to it is also shown.

History of the Kargil War Memorial :-

The Kargil War Memorial was constructed by the Indian Army to honour the enormous victory achieved by the brave Indian soldiers during the Kargil War in 1999.

The memorial is situated in the alpine town of Dras in Jammu and Kashmir's Kargil District. Many hills, including Tololing and Tiger Hills, near the Line of Control (LoC) of the Indian state were invaded and seized by Pakistani forces in May 1999.

At the memorial, the enormous Indian Flag, which weighs about 15 kg, flutters magnificently and recounts several untold tales of the hardships made by the armed personnel to maintain this flag flying high. The Tololing Hill and Tiger Hills, which were taken by the Pakistani army, are seen in the background of the memorial, which is situated directly where the Kargil War took place.
