Why to visit Mulbekh Monastery

The Mulbekh Monastery is housed to two gompas but is best known for its 30-foot-tall figure of the Maitreya Buddha that was sculpted on a massive limestone slab. These comprise the Rgaldanse Gompa of the Gelugpa Buddhist sect and the Serdung Gompa of the Drukpa sect. The monastery is also thought to be close to 800 years old.

A difficult route leads to the Mulbekh Monastery, which is perched atop a ridge more than 650 feet above the street. Additionally, it's estimated that the monastery stands about 11,495 feet above sea level and offers some of the Leh-Kargil Highway's most expansive views.

The statue displays a fusion of Shaivite and Buddhist ideas. In close proximity to the statue, there exist antiquated inscriptions and an order from King Lde directing the populace to stop sacrificing goats.
