The ancient Trigarta Kingdom, which is referenced in the Mahabharata epic, is the source of this formidable fort. It is the largest fort in the Himalayas, as well as India's oldest dated fort. It was once one of the most important hill stations in Punjab and Himachal, occupying the lower valley of the Beas and its tributaries.
