Why to visit Omkareshwara Temple

One of the twelve Jyotirlinga temples of Shiva found across the nation, the temple is devoted to Lord Shiva. It is thought that in order to prevent damage under Tipu Sultan's control, it was changed to have a Mohammedan aspect.

Things to see inside the Omkareshwara Temple:

  • Omkareshwar Temple, Coorg, unlike every other Hindu temple in India, lacks a spacious hall with pillars and the idol of the deity in the middle.
  • There is, however, a huge central dome that resembles mosques and dargas in Islam.
  • A water tank is also located on the temple grounds. Visitors adore taking pictures of the tank's cute small fish since it is filled with them.

History of the Omkareshwara Temple:

According to a legend, King Mandhata of Ikshvaku utilised the location of the Omkareshwara Temple to carry out his penance for his austerities against Lord Shiva; as a result, the mountain on which the temple is situated is also known as Mandhata.

The following is the Omkareshwara Temple's daily puja schedule:
