Why to visit Janardhana Temple

The Janardhana Swami Temple, which is about 2000 years old, is situated on a steep slope near the entrance to the beach road. The temples' proximity to the sacred water, which faces the Papanasam beach, adds to the spiritual atmosphere. The temple is oozing with architectural majesty and aesthetic attractiveness. The sanctum sanctorum is magnificent: it is circular, with a conical dome made of copper sheets and wooden sculptures representing the nine planets on the roof.

A majestic banyan tree greets the travellers, as do idols of several snake gods and goddesses. An inscription etched on the bottom half of the mandapa located before the temple dates from 1252. The entrance features gleaming Garuda, Hanuman, and Lord Shiva idols. The temple attracts devotees who come to pray to Lord Vishnu.

In March and April, the primary temple festival Arattu draws a large number of tourists. The priests assist devotees in paying tribute to their ancestors during Karkidaka Vavu. The design comes to life in the nights when the oil trays in the granite posts, which dangle from the ceilings, are filled with lit wicks.
