Why to visit The National September 11 Memorial

Just two of the countless memorials across the nation are the Memorial and Memorial Museum. The Sphere, a globe sculpture that was situated between the twin towers, was destroyed in the fall and is now on exhibit at nearby Battery Park City, where the museum is now housed. 10,000 artifacts are housed in the museum, including destroyed emergency vehicles, 911 calls and emergency response recordings, photographs of each casualty, and media documentation of the entire incident from the crash to the clean-up. Additionally, there are almost 2,000 recordings of first-person oral histories. The design incorporates the "slurry wall," a retaining wall that withstood the assaults and is meant to symbolize tenacity and survival.
