How to reach Chakrata

  • By Air: Jolly Grant Airport is the nearest airport to Chakrata. It is 115 km away from Dehradun. 
  • By Train: Dehradun railway station is the nearest railhead from Chakrata. Since the capital city is well-connected to all other major states of the country, you can easily book your tickets and reach Dehradun. 

From the airport and the railway station of Dehradun, the only way to reach Chakrata is via road. From Dehradun, you can opt for a roadways transportation service that will take about 3 hours from a shared/private/rented cab. Non-private cab services can cost around 2000-3000 INR. You can also take bus services (much cheaper) to reach Chakrata.

1. Tiger Falls

2. Deoban (Devban)

A dense forest that is often referred to as a 'God's forest" is situated at 2200 meters to 3025 meters above sea level. The forest has the highest peak, 'Vyasa Shikhar', which offers majestic Himalayan views. If you visit this place in winter, you might encounter snow on your way, which will add up to an exciting journey.

  • Interesting fact: It is called Vyasa Shikhar because it is where Vyasa wrote Mahabharata.
  • Location: 13 kilometres from Chakrata's main market.

3. Budher Caves (Miola Caves)

This one is the best place for anyone who loves unravelling mysteries. Budher cave is still unexplored due to the challenging pathway it offers, but certainly, it promises to deliver a weekend of excitement. It has a legend dating back to the Mahabharata era that goes like it was Pandavas who built this cave to escape when their castle was set on fire. 

  • Interesting Fact: The cave is believed to be more than 150 kilometres long, but no one knows the exact length to date.
  • Location: 30 kilometres away from Chakrata, followed by a 3-kilometre long trek from FRH Budher till Miola Tibba.

4. Mundali

5. Chilmark Neck
