Why to visit Palais Garnier

The Palais Garnier, which houses the world-famous Paris Opera, is a wonderfully beautiful theatre constructed in 1875 and named for its architect Charles Garnier. An grandiose front with sculptures and gold components features the eclectic ornamental style typical of late nineteenth-century French architecture.

The theatre seats approximately 1,900 people, and the stage, which can accommodate 450 artists, is one of the largest in Europe. Palais Garnier, with its crystal chandeliers, velvet, marble, and gold surfaces, provides a lavish setting for the Opéra de Paris' opera and ballet productions.

You can also combine a visit to PalaisGarnier with other adjacent architectural marvels like the renowned Galeries Lafayette department store and the passageways couverts (covered shopping galleries).

Special Tip

Aside from operas and ballets, a tour of the Palais Garnier is also available. English tours are held at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday. English tours are offered daily at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. in July and August. Also, people under the age of 28 and above the age of 65, as well as the unemployed, can attend an opera performance for a reduced price.
